How Does the PTFE Immersion Heater Work?

PTFE immersion heaters work through a combination of resistive heating and the insulating properties of PTFE. Here's a breakdown of how they operate:
1. Heating Element: PTFE immersion heaters consist of a heating element typically made from a resistive material such as nickel-chromium (Nichrome) wire. This heating element is enclosed within a sheath made of PTFE, which is a highly non-reactive and insulating material known for its excellent chemical resistance.
2. Electricity Supply: When the PTFE immersion heater is connected to an electrical power source, electricity flows through the heating element. The resistive heating element offers resistance to the flow of electricity, causing it to generate heat as a byproduct.
3. Heat Transfer: As electricity passes through the resistive heating element, it heats up. The heat generated is then transferred to the PTFE sheath surrounding the heating element. PTFE has a high melting point and is an excellent insulator, which helps to contain the heat and prevent it from dissipating into the surrounding environment.
4. Immersion in Fluid: PTFE immersion heaters are designed to be submerged directly into the fluid that requires heating, such as water, oils, or chemicals. As the PTFE sheath heats up, it transfers the heat to the surrounding fluid through conduction.
